How to Set Your Legacy Exceptions in Your Anti-Virus software

Many anti-virus software programs can be strict in what they allow in and out of your computer.  Because of this Legacy might be restricted in what it can do and this can result in functions like Hints, Search the Internet and the Family Search interface to not work.  To allow Legacy to perform like it was designed to you may need to set Legacy as allowed in your anti-virus software.  Below are a list of programs and their path's that you will need to set as allowed in Legacy:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy9\Hints\Hints.exe

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy9\LegacyCharting\LegacyCharting.exe

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy9\FamilySearch\LegacyFS.exe

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy9\LegacyX.exe

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Legacy9\Legacy.exe

  • Legacy9Setup.exe (this may be located in your downloads folder)

Here is a list of major anti-virus programs and a link to their website with guides on how to add a program as an exception:

If you do not see your Anti-Virus program in the above list and you need steps on how to add an exception you can do a Google search for "(your Anti-Virus program) how to add an exception".

If your Anti-Virus programs have a web shield you may want to also add "Legacyfamilytree.com" as an exception.

Window 10 has a protection feature called Controlled Folder Access. Please try turning this off by going to your start menu and typing in Controlled Folder. This should bring up the option Controlled Folder Access. Once this is turned off try Legacy again.
