When you cannot uninstall Legacy because of the “Could not open INSTALL.LOG file” or similar INSTALL.LOG error message:

• If you only recently installed Legacy and never had an earlier version of Legacy:

Please visit Uninstall - how to do a complete and totally clean removal of Legacy
.

• If you have an earlier version of Legacy Family Tree and then installed the current version of Legacy:

NOTE: Both the new and earlier version of Legacy are on your computer; however, the Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) tool in the Control Panel will display only  the current version of Legacy. Your earlier version of Legacy is no longer registered.

1. Backup or copy your family file and pictures, etc. to a safe place, preferably to Legacy Family Tree\Data and Legacy Family Tree\Media in your Documents folder.
2. Legacy Family Tree, Legacy Charting and Legacy FamilySearch and add-on programs must all be closed before you can uninstall.
3. Delete the Legacy folder at C:\Legacy.
4.
Delete the old red and blue shield icon for Legacy 7.5 or earlier from your Desktop screen and Start menu.
5. Remove the old Legacy 7.5 earlier program items from your All Programs menu and unpin the old red and blue Legacy icon, as needed.
