• File in the 'List of Files Found':

We have observed in Legacy, if you have deleted or moved a family file, when you click on File > Open File > "Have Legacy create a list of files to choose from" that the name of the file will still be in the list.

If you click on the name of the deleted or moved file, Legacy won't find it and will prompt "Do you want to create <filename.fdb> as a new file?" If the user clicks "Yes" Legacy will create a new empty file (0 people, 0 marriages) with the same name. Then the user my assume that Legacy erased all the data in the file.

We strongly recommend that each time you go back to the list of files that you click Refresh List. Then the deleted files will no longer show and it will find the any files the users might have moved, so there's no chance of making an empty family file this way again.

• Protected file on a CD or some other location:

"Do you want to create C:\Legacy\Data\[filename].fdb as a new Family File?" or similar message. If you see this message, the fix is easy:

1. Right-click on the family file and select Properties from the popup menu.
2. On the General tab of the Properties screen remove the Read-only and Hidden attributes.
3. On the Security tab make sure that "Full control" is check marked. If not, click the Edit button to open the Permissions screen, then check mark "Full control" and click Apply and OK..
4. Exit the Properties screen by clicking Apply and OK again.

We have also noted other rare problems related to security issues with the Legacy directory itself. You the user can do these same steps on the Legacy folder on the hard drive and apply the changes to all files and subdirectories.
